Part Time Field Engineer (San Francisco Bay Area)
This is a part time, hourly position with the potential for conversion to full time in the future.
Please note that this is a Senior Level position for experienced candidates only!
The Field Engineer will work as part of a team supporting clients and performing duties as required by the contract or as requested by senior support staff. He/she will report to the contract lead. The role will be focus primarily on onsite end user support with server and network infrastructure work required as necessary. Remote team members from Operations and Infrastructure provide additional support and will be primary for phone-based and backend infrastructure support, respectively. The Field Engineer will be required to travel to client sites all over the Bay Area.
Required Technical Qualifications
You should have at least 5 years of experience as a Systems Administrator or Desktop Support Engineer. It is also highly desirable that you have worked with environments of all sizes and with mixed technologies. The following requirements are in order of importance:
- MCSE 2003 or later and/or equivalent experience (MCITP Enterprise Administrator preferred)
- Strong Macintosh Support Experience and/or Apple Certification (ACSP/ACSA)
- Windows Operating Systems including XP, 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 7
- Macintosh Operating Systems including OS X Panther, Snow Leopard, and Lion
- Generalized networking knowledge and troubleshooting skills
- Strong mobile device experience (Blackberry/iPhone/Android/WP7)
- Basic firewall and switch setup and administration (Cisco/Dell/SonicWALL/etc)
- Wireless network setup and security (802.1x standard)
- Macintosh Applications including Time Machine, Networking, Printing, PGP and User Profiles
- Knowledge of Active Directory (especially Group Policy)
- Macintosh mail clients including Entourage, Mac Mail, and Outlook 2011 for Exchange
- Outlook 2003 to 2010 setup and troubleshooting for use with Exchange
- Backup tape rotation and monitoring
- Printer driver installation and troubleshooting
- User account creation and maintenance
- Excellent knowledge of general user issues and software packages (Windows/Mac)
- Excellent knowledge of hardware (Apple/Dell/HP)
- Knowledge of network cabling standards
Other Required Qualifications
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Ability to work with users in person in a professional and accommodating manner
- Patience to deal with end-user support issues
- Reliable Transportation - Ability to travel to client sites to perform work
- Reliable Internet Access - You may have the option to perform additional work from home for many clients
- The ability to work independently and with little supervision
- The ability to lift 50 lbs
Nice to Have (Pluses)
- Small Business Server (2003 to 2011) experience
- Software deployment through GPOs and creation of MSI packages
- Exchange 2003/2007/2010 administration and troubleshooting
- Lync 2010 client or server experience
- VOIP Phone system experience (Cisco/ShoreTel/Avaya/Asterisk/Lync)
- Backups software experience with Backup Exec, Netbackup, Arcserve, and DPM
- Knowledge of disaster recovery procedures for Exchange and SQL
- Experience with Distributed File System (DFS) and File Replication Services (FRS)
- General knowledge of Linux
- Advanced Firewall administration skills
